Carrier-Free Antibodies

Ideal for Increased Assay Sensitivity and Easy, Efficient Conjugation

Carrier-free antibodies are particularly useful in applications where the presence of additional proteins can interfere with the assay or experiment. Fortis Life Sciences offers a subset of the Bethyl antibody portfolio in BSA-free format. These antibodies are free of BSA and glycerol, and are suitable for a variety of processes that require increased sensitivity or can be hindered by the presence of carrier proteins.

Our carrier-free antibodies are validated for assays including multiplex IHC, flow cytometry, immunoprecipitation, and ELISA, as well as antibody conjugation.

Antibody Conjugation and Labeling

Carrier-free antibodies are crucial for antibody conjugation and antibody labeling without requiring buffer exchange. These antibodies are compatible with a variety of conjugates and conjugation chemistries including fluorophores, enzymes, and epitope tags.

Immunoassays

The presence of BSA in antibody formulations can increase the signal-to-noise ratio and decrease the sensitivity of immunoassays by interfering with antibody binding to its intended target. Carrier-free antibodies eliminate the possibility of off-target antibody binding to BSA, improving assay sensitivity and specificity. Immunoassays that benefit from the use of carrier-free antibodies include:

  • Immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry
  • Immunoprecipitation
  • Mass cytometry – CyTOF, imaging mass cytometry

Benefits of Carrier-free Antibodies

  • Ready for conjugation to fluorophores, enzymes, oligonucleotides, metal isotypes, and other labels
  • Minimal cross-reactivity and non-specific binding
  • Enhanced assay sensitivity

Carrier-free antibodies are also suitable for conjugation, with no need for buffer exchange. Our custom antibody conjugation service can complement your carrier-free antibody selection. We offer conjugation to a variety of labels including fluorophores, enzymes, and signal-amplifying conjugates. Conjugated antibodies can be used for downstream applications including multiplex IHC, flow cytometry, western blot, and more.
